Cremation FAQ

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT CREMATION

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT CREMATION

Cremation is one of the two most popular methods chosen for the final disposition of a loved one. However, people tend to know more about the burial process than they do about cremation. When it comes to cremation, people often don’t know where to start. John F. Pfleger Funeral Home in Middletown, NJ, can answer any questions you may have. Below, we have compiled some of the questions we answer for our clients most often.

FAQ About Cremation Services

How soon can I cremate a family member?

In New Jersey, the legal wait period for cremation is 24 hours. However, because of the finality of the process, it is usually recommended to wait 48-72 hours before cremation.

How much does cremation cost?

Cremation is typically less costly than a traditional burial. Take a look at our service pricing guide to learn about cremation costs at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home. We have payment plans available to help you finance your loved one’s final arrangements.

If we choose cremation, does my loved one have to be embalmed?

Embalming is not required for cremation, but you may still embalm your loved ones if you plan to cremate them. You may choose to embalm your loved one if you want to have a viewing or visitation before the cremation takes place. This way, the body is preserved in a presentable manner.

How long does cremation take?

The cremation process usually lasts about two hours, but the exact timing will depend on the specifics. Some factors that influence the time frame are the size of the person being cremated and the type of cremator that will be used.

Are people dressed when they are cremated?

Often, the departed are cremated in clothing similar to what they would be presented in at a funeral or viewing.

What type of service is right for us after we have cremated our loved ones?

After you decide to cremate your loved one, you can still have any kind of ceremony you wish. We recommend that our clients still hold a visitation and a funeral service if they plan to cremate.

What should I do with my loved one’s ashes?

Once your loved one has been cremated, there are a few options for their final disposition. Some people bury or inter the urn with their loved one’s ashes in a family plot or other preferred location. Others prefer to scatter the ashes in a meaningful location. Some people split their loved one’s remains among several urns for family members.
